My name is Paige Phillips. The experience and knowledge I have gained throughout my developing career, as well as a few key qualities that I possess; have made me very successful thus far. Developing my brand has prepared me to challenge myself and secure an opportunity to take my career to the next level.
First of all, I am a people person. If you are familiar with the DISC model, I test as having high “I” tendencies (I will actively seek out people to interact with or influence). I like to create synergy and progress. In every business school class project, I always naturally assumed the leader/manager role because people recognize my commitment to success. I have always been social and I like to be an entertainer. In high school I was a cheerleader all four years and I was the varsity head cheerleader my senior year. I now have aspirations to cheer for a professional sports team. I like being part of a group and creating a positive atmosphere around me. As an Event Coordinator for the Sugar Land Skeeters I play many roles to many people. I enjoy being the liaison between my clients and the operational team staff. I have been very successful at keeping both sides happy while juggling many duties and tasks. My game day producer even asked the rest of the sales staff to model their execution plans after one that I created from scratch despite having no prior experience with minor league baseball. I like to make people's lives easier, which always leads to benefits down the road.
Even though I am social, I still maintain a strong work ethic. I also test highly for “C” in the DISC model, which means I am compliant, organized, and detailed. I value performance and goal setting. I was able to juggle internships, a heavy course load, and social activities throughout my four years at Baylor. Friends and family are important to me but I constantly make sure I am focused and working to be a stand-out achiever. I do this by accepting any opportunity to gain work experience in a variety of fields. I volunteered to help General Motors R*Works at the Dickies 500 during my junior year. I had to get up before dawn every morning to prepare for hundreds of NASCAR fans to come through their hospitality tent. I was up and active the whole time, trying to engage every single person. As a result, I was recognized for my hard work and energetic attitude. Working for a brand new, startup minor league baseball team has been extremely challenging. The organization is ever-evolving, while moving a hundred miles per hour. Despite all the challenges, frustrations, and all the operational duties I get pulled into; I have been able to achieve my annual sales goal in less than 3 quarters.
Finally, I am a proactive seller. I have had to sell myself more than anything so far. I was accepted to the elite S3 major at Baylor after proving that I will work hard for myself and to continue the major’s reputation of success in the sports and event marketing world. I have created this website to sell myself to potential employers. I was the sales leader when I worked for the Houston Texans because I followed up with every lead and aggressively worked my call lists. I have been guided by professional sales people from all over the country in many different sales arenas (MLB, NBA, NFL, media sales, corporate sales, etc.). I have been successful selling all inventory for the Sugar Land Skeeters because I have quickly built relationships in the community and have many happy clients who want to help me and be a part of the team. Most importantly, I am self-motivated. I set personal goals for myself with each sales effort in order to stay focused.
My people skills, work ethic, and proactive selling have made me successful thus far and will further my growth as a professional in the future. I hope that one day I am in the position to help guide those who aspire to work in the sports and event marketing world.
